One of the best weekends of my life. This is how I would describe the days I lived at the World Club Dome in Frankfurt in June.

I did not know about the existence of this festival until I arrived here, to Mainz. I was not aware of what I was missing because I did not listen to techno music. But yes, it was only a year of Erasmus in Germany, the most important European country of techno music, to discover a musical style that I never thought I could like and that is undoubtedly what I get best from my Erasmus experience.

Once in this environment and after enjoying many techno parties during the winter semester, arrived the summer and with it, the incredible and unique World Club Dome festival in Frankfurt.

After this brief introduction about my experience with techno music, I will go on to tell what really matters, what is the World Club Dome Universe? Are you ready to get in the world of EDM and techno music? Come with me and let me show you the secrets of the best festival I’ve ever been in.

The BigCityBeats World Club Dome, or better known as WCD for short, is a festival of electronic dance music, which takes place annually, at the end of May or at the beginning of June, at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt am Main. The festival is organized by the BigCityBeats radio station.

The first festival took place on June 9, 2013 with the name of “BigCityBeats World Music Dome”. In addition to the main stage set up in the stadium, there were another 10 micro-stages of different musical genres.

After their great success, they continued making new editions that brought improvements of all kinds: better conditions, more DJs and the key to everything, the creation of new stages of different musical styles to attract more people year after year. In its first edition (2013) had 25,000 visitors and in just 7 years have reached 180,000 visitors.

From 7 to 9 June 2019, the seventh edition of the WCD was held under the name “World Club Dome Space Edition” and the organizers had the cooperation of the European Space Agency (ESA). The entire festival, as well as all stages, were set in the outer space and the ESA. The main stage of the stadium, had a rocket as decoration.

Something very important to emphasize is the great variety of musical styles (all within the electronic music global style) that you can listen to in the WCD. Since its first edition, the festival has counted every year with more than 10 stages of different genres.

The main stage is always in the stadium and there is the industrial music, better known as EDM. During its 7 editions, the WCD has had a line-up full of DJs known worldwide for creating songs that have become number one of all the EDM music lists. Yes, we talk about artists with a massive audience of people like David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Robin Schulz, Clean Bandit, Jason Derulo, Lost Frequencies, Hardwell and they came to count in 2015 with the currently dead Avicii as headliner.

Well, now comes the best. After the success of the 2015 edition with Avicii as headliner, 3 days of festival and with the stages of Space Ibiza and Neonsplash as hosts of the party, in the 2016 edition the WCD decided to create, next to the enclosure of the festival, an area with swimming pool and camping.

With the appearance of the pool area arrived the long-awaited and expected Pool Sessions and with them the sound of techno music. They started in 2016 with lesser-known artists and with Solomun and Sven Väth as headliners of techno. The Pool Sessions of 2017 and 2018 only confirmed the success for the WCD because of the introduction of techno music at the festival.

And 2019 arrived, the year that the WCD will remember for leaving without words to each and every one of the techno lovers who had the opportunity to enjoy the Pool Sessions. And is that, the organizers of the festival got the best techno line-up ever seen in any previous edition. They had the best techno DJs of the moment: Nina Kraviz, Boris Brejcha, Len Faki, Marco Faraone, Paul Kalkbrenner, Pleasurekraft, Sidney Spaeth, Sven Väth and many more.

We must highlight something very important, the WCD had the brilliant idea of giving their fans the option to choose what kind of music they wanted to dance during the days that the festival lasted. That’s why since the creation of Pool Sessions, you can buy different ticket options, depending on the style of music you want to dance.

As you can see, I was not lying when I said that I had the best weekend of my life. This year I was one of the lucky ones who could enjoy the WCD Pool Sessions; all accompanied by the hand of great techno artists, DJs that I dreamed of seeing them play once in my life and that Germany has given me the opportunity to enjoy.

Thanks Germany for being the European city of techno music and thanks to my friends, my techno-squad, for introducing me to this madness and teaching me to enjoy what I get best from this Erasmus: THE TECHNO MUSIC!

I’m already counting the days for the eighth edition. Are you still thinking about to come? You can’t miss the WCD Frankfurt 2020. I will be there, and you? I hope to see you there!!
