Will Woodstock 50 be a total disaster?

August 1969, the Woodstock Music & Arts Fair was celebrated in upstate New York. The festival became an instant sensation receiving over half a million people to enjoy “3 days of Peace & Music”, as states the official website. The line-up included many of the principal acts at the moment such as Santana, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and many others. Woodstock has become an icon exemplifying the hippie, free love and peace movement that was originated at that time in the USA.

For the celebration of the 50th anniversary, Woodstock’s co-creator Michael Lang has helped to organize an edition of the emblematic festival. It is scheduled to take place the weekend of Aug. 16-18 and it will include as headliners: The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Jay-z, Imagine Dragons and many more.

At this point you might be thinking that Woodstock 50 looks great, however, it is not yet sure that the memorable festival will finally take place. The festival’s organization has encountered thousands of problems in the process. First, less than one month after announcing the lineup, on the of the headliners, The Black Keys cancelled their performance due to scheduling conflict.

Later, the tickets were supposed to go on sale on April 22 and they have yet not gone on sale. This has been an effect of the two major complications the organization has come across: the investors and the festival’s venue.

Both issue have gone hand by hand as investors Dentsu Aegis Network ceased their involvement after the capacity was reduced to 75,000 (after being initially planned for 150,000 and later 100,000). Legal action was taken to the New York Supreme Court over the rights of the artists, as many of the artists had contracts with Dentsu Aegis. Other investors also backed up at that moment but soon the organization found trust in investors CID Entertainment.

Nevertheless, problems did not end at that point. On June 10th, almost three months before the festival should take place, the venue owners (Watkins Glen International) announced they were cancelling the contract due to a missed payment of $150,000 and hours later CID Entertainment pulled out as an investor.

At the beginning of last week there was news about the fact that the festival was applying permits for a new venue: Vernon Downs. This site will reduce the capacity of event even more, down to 45,000-50,000 people.

Some sources say that till this date, artists have yet not been officially informed by the festival’s organization of the new venue.

TOMORROWLAND BELGIUM: “Live Today, Love Tomorrow, Unite Forever”

Tomorrowland Belgium in Boom, Brussels.

Hello everyone! Today I’m here to tell you about a festival that I’m sure you know. It is “TOMORROWLAND” and is that, nobody can say that he doesn’t know about the existence of this festival. If you are a lover of electronic dance music, you can’t miss what I will tell you in this post. Do you dare to find out how is the best EDM music festival in the world?

Source: https://www.tomorrowland.com/en/festival/welcome

First I will tell you a little about the history of the festival. Tomorrowland Belgium takes place annually outside of Boom, a town in Brussels and is organized by ID&T. It is estimated that every year, more than 400,000 people of 200 different nationalities attend the festival. That’s because the festival we’re talking about is known for taking year after year, artists with high ratings worldwide.

The first edition of the festival took place on August 14, 2005. In it the headliners were Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and Coone, among others. Between 2007 and 2013 the organizers of the festival were incorporating improvements. In 2009, they began to put a slogan to each edition. In 2010, the edition was a leap to fame for the creation of the camping area, better known as DreamVille. In the 2011 edition, the festival lasted 3 days and was already known worldwide.

While the editions between 2009 and 2016 were successful, it was the 2017 edition that positioned Tomorrowland as the best electronic music festival in the world. And, in 2017 the festival happened to be celebrated during two consecutive weekends in July. Thus, they reached for the first time, the 400,000 tickets sold.

Source: https://www.tomorrowland.com/en/festival/welcome

Let’s talk about what really matters, what is lived inside Tomorrowland? In those days your body and your mind move to live in another world, a world where you can only dance, enjoy music and meet new people, nothing else matters! Tomorrowland is clear, wants to make you spend the best weekend of your life and therefore, its motto is: “Live Today, Love Tomorrow, Unite Forever.”

Echoing its name, Tomorrowland is the “land of tomorrow” and that is why the stages and the whole atmosphere are decorated to make it look like you are in a magical world, full of fantasy.

The public of Tomorrowland not only lives of the EDM sound, if you dare to take a walk by the environs of the enclosure, you will find in your step sounds of different subgenres within the electronic music. Some of these sounds are techno, future house, deep house, progressive, hip hop, dubstep, drum & bass, and many others.

Source: https://wololosound.com/eventos/tomorrowland-presenta-invitados-2018/

People make the mistake of not moving from the main stage during the 3 days and yes, there is life beyond the main stage! Tomorrowland has more than 16 stages and although it is clear that the main stage has the best decoration (games of lights, lasers, waterfalls, trees of 100 meters high …), you can not leave without visiting other stages. Two of those that you can’t forget are: “Rave the Cave”, which is a small cabin inside a cave and “The Rose Garden”, where you can find a fire-breathing dragon.

In addition, as we have mentioned before, the festival consists of a campsite on the outskirts of the festival area, known as DreamVille. DreamVille offers different comforts: a place to set up your own tent, an easy tent, relax rooms, VIP cabins or a mansion for your friends’ group. The festival suits the pocket of everyone and has options for all tastes!

I just have to talk about food, something that is essential if you want to have enough strength to endure hours and hours of dancing. Also, who doesn’t like to eat? Well, food is a matter that you shouldn’t worry about, Tomorrowland is responsible for keeping your hunger sated. For this, it has food stalls and restaurants where you can taste the flavors of different corners of the world. You can also bring your own food and drink to the camp. But since Tomorrowland is a festival without cash, you will have to buy the official chips before entering the gourmet zone.

Well, after hearing all this, are you still thinking about going to the Tomorrowland festival? I have it clear, I don’t have to die without having gone, even once in my life. Hope to see you there!!

The rejuvenated Great Wall Festival has been occuring since 2016.Mutiabyu,Badaling,Huaibei international ski resort  are few of the sites at the Great Wall of China  where this festival has been held in recent years.Huaibei international ski resort is a woodland right next to the Great Wall, Beijing. Its basically approximately a 30 hour techno party with the experience of the great wall.Great wall festival takes pride in featuring the heavy artists in their line up.For 2019 rendition techno royalty such as Ben Klock, Marccel Dettmann, Dave Clarke, Mind Against, Pan Pot featured in the line up.In the previous year heavy hitting artists such as Dixon, Nina Kraviz,Recondite, Carl Craig performed at the festival. This festival provides the opportunity to experience the most ambitious music experience at one of the seven wonders of the world, The Great Wall, China.

This festival holds a 5k run along the Great wall as part of the festival itself. Those who are keen can participate in this run. Many festival goers participate in this 5k run to remind themselves the importance of the physical exercise, and there are others who participate in the 5k run to be a part of it and to have a complete experience of the festival.

The 5k run on the wall

It is not, however, at all an easy  task to arrange  a unique event such as the Great Wall Festival.Isabella Wang, The festival’s COO  who is responsible for running this event in its present incarnation since 2016, mentions  that there are mountains of paperwork along with intricate procedures to sort the application process alone. That the authorities are still at bay as to what the Techno/electronic music is – is no help either. “They don’t know what techno is,” She continues. “And booking DJs can also be a problem because it’s not like in Europe, where it’s very easy to fly from Paris to Berlin. Costs can be high to come for one gig.”

Techno Evening

Invariably, there are some music experience on  the ancient grey stone tower  that was built by Ming Dynasty some five centuries ago to protect the aboriginals from the nomadic tribes’ invasion. These grey stone towers are the parts of 5,500 mile long fortification that is known as The Great Wall of China. Some one can take this opportunity to rave on what happens to be one of the modern seven wonders of the world. But its not just the imagery that is brilliant about this festival; it’s the combination of setting and the mind bending audio alchemy – an experience that’s truly mind expanding.

🔥The Burning Man🔥

Source: https://gallery.burningman.org/

Welcome to today’s festival, although more than a festival today’s is an event, a great congregation in Black Rock City, an ephemeral city that is built every year in the middle of the Nevada’s desert to celebrate the Burning Man, this year 2019 will be the August 25th to September 2sd. Please do not confuse with the falles of València (Spain), which is something else entirely.

The event is one of those incidents that it is hard to describe, even explain, because the goal of attending the festival is more related to feelings than to the senses.

The starting point may sounds crazy to many. Create a city from nothing without electricity or natural water. It’s not just any city, it’s one in which seventy thousand of people will live for more than a week, and for the city to be sustainable you have to follow the rule of the game “leave no trace”, these means nothing to leave dirt on the floor, even the holes in the earth have to be replaced to their natural state before leaving.

Burning Man is not a festival, it is not a concert, it is not a camp and it is not a holiday place either. Attending involves accepting risk, being prepared, facing extreme situations and leaving prejudices at home.

There you can live the best and worst experience of your life, because in the middle of the Black Rock desert there is no commerce, you cannot buy water, food, medicine or clothing. What you bring is what you have. There is only one thing that can be bought, and it is ice, it is the most precious good to be able to drink cold water and to be able to keep food fresh.

No, Burning Man is not for everyone, there are many discomforts to overcome such as sleeping for a week in a tent where you cannot be when the sun rises, or that your bathroom will be used by you and thousands of others of people, without forgetting that you are in the middle of the desert where sandstorms occur.

The most common means of transport is the bicycle, turned into true works of art, and do not forget that the concept of personal expression ranges from the bicycle itself to clothing and attitude, everything is allowed.

This is an extreme place that maintains its inclusive character, of community, with which it was born between two friends in 1986 in the bay of San Francisco. Since then it has grown exponentially, so much that today getting an entry is a great feat, believe me I have tried but the student concepts with low income and having to cross half the world are not very friendly with this type of experience.

People from all over attend, eager to share, enjoy and make the experience something very valuable. Speaking of sharing, many people attend to offer something to others in exchange for nothing. Drinks, ice cream, potatoes, massages, parties or games, anything to be part of the community that for a few days represents the best essence of the human being.

Everything began with the burning of a small effigy, nowadays the scale is much greater, but the tradition is maintained, and the culmination of the event is when tens of thousands of people contemplate together the burning of the gigantic artistic sculpture. Not valencians, I do not talk about our falles which I love so much, although this sounds so much to you, it takes place a little farther at a 9.000km, do not get angry with me but the Burning Man is something worth seeing, living and feel by yourself, and when my time arrives, I’ll be there and I hope, maybe, with some of you! Now you have read this, do you think we will see each other? And if you have been there, what was your impression?

MEMORABLE PERFORMANCES OF DAVID GUETTA, BLACK EYED PEAS, IGGY POP AND MANY OTHERS IN O SON DO CAMIÑO

The second edition of the music festival O Son do Camiño took place the past 13 of June in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This festival has hosted renowed artists such as Black Eyed Peas, Iggy Pop, David Guetta, Die Antwoord, Vetusta Morla or Rosalía, complemented with one of the most important Djs in the today´s international panorama, Dimitri Vegas, according to the DJ Mag ranking. Also on its billboard it had made an appearance artists from many different styles arround the world combined with own local galician musicians like Iván Ferreiro, Eme Dj or Marem Ladson.

Source: Youtube

O Son do Camiño, which its first debut occured this past year, has made such a huge impact on the public until the point that it was considered to be the first spanish music festival to achieve a massive sold out of all the avaliable tickets the same day they were launched.

With this last year´s big hit, the galician capital had to deal this time with a very  big challenge : to fullfill the audience´s high expectations , wich seemed not to be easy.

But… they did it again! And O son do Camiño 2019 edition has broken records once more! The first 25000 tickets were sold out in less than one hour, and because of its impressive success, it seems we will have o son do camiño for a long time.

Fuji Rock Festival: Down the Mountain up the Sky

Fuji Rock Festival-Japan

Venue: Naeba Ski Resort, in Niigata Prefecture, Japan

Smash Japan organizes the famous 3-day music event which features more than 200 international and Japanese musicians. It is the biggest outdoor music event in Japan. Approximately 100,000 people attended the Fuji Rock festival in 2005.

Fuji Rock festival is named after its first ever venue, the base of Mount fuji which held the first event in 1997. Naeba ski resort in Yuzawa, Niigata has been hosting the event since 1999.

History

A walk towards Naeba for the Festival

The very first year of the festival was a disaster. It was held on Tenjinyama ski resort near Mount Fuji. The first day of the event was washed out by a typhoon and it was supposed to be a 2-day event. The Red Hot Chili Pepper performed through a storm although Anthony Kiedis having a broken arm. This incident made him legendary among the Fuji Rock veterans. The audience was not prepared for the heavy rains and strong winds and many of them required medical attention for Hypothermia. The organizers cancelled the second day given the perilous weather at the first day.Ironically the second day turned out to be sunny and bright, thus ended the first outdoor Rock festival in Japan.

The second year was a held in Toyosu on Tokyo’s waterfront. The event was a success except for the fact that the event goers had to face the searing heat of the mid-summer Tokyo. The festival moved to Naeba, Niigata from the 3rd year 1999. Its not close to mount Fuji, however the name of the festival was kept. The name and location of this successful music event has been the same since then till today.

Preference Perspective:

Accommodation-Nozawa

Since Naeba is a ski resort it offers numerous accommodation options such as hotels, Minshuku and Ryokan at close proximity to the festival site although competition for these accommodations is high.Nearby ski resorts such as Asagai, Mitsumata , and tashiro are also some other accommodations options for the festival goers. The free shuttle bus that links JR Echigo and Yuzawa station can be used to travel between this ski resort areas and the festival site. The bus takes about 40 minutes to an hour each way and the service is available until 2am.

There are some other accommodation options for the festival goers if they are interested. The campsite on the golf course just next to the festival site is very popular among the festival goers as wel. Approximately, 17,000 festival goers opt for the campsite option as their accommodation during the festival each year. Previously some used to take the option of sleeping rough- a common practice among the Japanese youth during warm months which is prohibited now.

Tickets are available online since few months before the event. There is no hassle to collect the ticket. This is something the Fuji music festival goers appreciated in recent years.

Aesthetic Perspective

It may not make sense on paper but the end results are glorious

Fuji Rock festival offers more than just music to the festival goers. There are many different areas within the vicinity to add different flavors in the experience. The Green stage is the main outdoor stage . Large screen monitors are availablein this area and can accommodate 40,000 people.

Gypsy Avalon

A chilled-out  stage with the  capacity of 1000. The electricity that is used in is generated from the solar power and bio diesel to decrease the emmission of co2.This is the stage if some one is looking for a friendly atmosphere and to enjoy close performances from the artists.

Gypsy Avalon, Café de paris, Pyramid Garden, Kids Land, Naeba Shokudo are few of the many other intriguing stages.

Different stages and Map area of the Venue: 2019

The WCD Universe: Do you dare to enter?

The World Club Dome festival in Frankfurt am Main.

One of the best weekends of my life. This is how I would describe the days I lived at the World Club Dome in Frankfurt in June.

Source: http://nexussounds.home.blog

I did not know about the existence of this festival until I arrived here, to Mainz. I was not aware of what I was missing because I did not listen to techno music. But yes, it was only a year of Erasmus in Germany, the most important European country of techno music, to discover a musical style that I never thought I could like and that is undoubtedly what I get best from my Erasmus experience.

Once in this environment and after enjoying many techno parties during the winter semester, arrived the summer and with it, the incredible and unique World Club Dome festival in Frankfurt.

After this brief introduction about my experience with techno music, I will go on to tell what really matters, what is the World Club Dome Universe? Are you ready to get in the world of EDM and techno music? Come with me and let me show you the secrets of the best festival I’ve ever been in.

The BigCityBeats World Club Dome, or better known as WCD for short, is a festival of electronic dance music, which takes place annually, at the end of May or at the beginning of June, at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt am Main. The festival is organized by the BigCityBeats radio station.

Source: https://www.worldclubdome.com

The first festival took place on June 9, 2013 with the name of “BigCityBeats World Music Dome”. In addition to the main stage set up in the stadium, there were another 10 micro-stages of different musical genres.

After their great success, they continued making new editions that brought improvements of all kinds: better conditions, more DJs and the key to everything, the creation of new stages of different musical styles to attract more people year after year. In its first edition (2013) had 25,000 visitors and in just 7 years have reached 180,000 visitors.

From 7 to 9 June 2019, the seventh edition of the WCD was held under the name “World Club Dome Space Edition” and the organizers had the cooperation of the European Space Agency (ESA). The entire festival, as well as all stages, were set in the outer space and the ESA. The main stage of the stadium, had a rocket as decoration.

Something very important to emphasize is the great variety of musical styles (all within the electronic music global style) that you can listen to in the WCD. Since its first edition, the festival has counted every year with more than 10 stages of different genres.

The main stage is always in the stadium and there is the industrial music, better known as EDM. During its 7 editions, the WCD has had a line-up full of DJs known worldwide for creating songs that have become number one of all the EDM music lists. Yes, we talk about artists with a massive audience of people like David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Robin Schulz, Clean Bandit, Jason Derulo, Lost Frequencies, Hardwell and they came to count in 2015 with the currently dead Avicii as headliner.

Source: https://www.worldclubdome.com

Well, now comes the best. After the success of the 2015 edition with Avicii as headliner, 3 days of festival and with the stages of Space Ibiza and Neonsplash as hosts of the party, in the 2016 edition the WCD decided to create, next to the enclosure of the festival, an area with swimming pool and camping.

With the appearance of the pool area arrived the long-awaited and expected Pool Sessions and with them the sound of techno music. They started in 2016 with lesser-known artists and with Solomun and Sven Väth as headliners of techno. The Pool Sessions of 2017 and 2018 only confirmed the success for the WCD because of the introduction of techno music at the festival.

And 2019 arrived, the year that the WCD will remember for leaving without words to each and every one of the techno lovers who had the opportunity to enjoy the Pool Sessions. And is that, the organizers of the festival got the best techno line-up ever seen in any previous edition. They had the best techno DJs of the moment: Nina Kraviz, Boris Brejcha, Len Faki, Marco Faraone, Paul Kalkbrenner, Pleasurekraft, Sidney Spaeth, Sven Väth and many more.

We must highlight something very important, the WCD had the brilliant idea of giving their fans the option to choose what kind of music they wanted to dance during the days that the festival lasted. That’s why since the creation of Pool Sessions, you can buy different ticket options, depending on the style of music you want to dance.

As you can see, I was not lying when I said that I had the best weekend of my life. This year I was one of the lucky ones who could enjoy the WCD Pool Sessions; all accompanied by the hand of great techno artists, DJs that I dreamed of seeing them play once in my life and that Germany has given me the opportunity to enjoy.

Thanks Germany for being the European city of techno music and thanks to my friends, my techno-squad, for introducing me to this madness and teaching me to enjoy what I get best from this Erasmus: THE TECHNO MUSIC!

I’m already counting the days for the eighth edition. Are you still thinking about to come? You can’t miss the WCD Frankfurt 2020. I will be there, and you? I hope to see you there!!

When Daft Punk changed live performances forever at Coachella 2006

You have probably already heard about Daft Punk, I mean, who has not danced to their catchy tune “Get Lucky”? Daft Punk is an electronic music duo, famous for wearing their astonishing robot helmets.

However, what you might did not know is that they do not appear very often in public. Their last appearances have been in the Grammy’s (2008, 2014 and 2017) and their last tour was in 2007.

Alive 2007 was the name of the last Daft Punk tour , performing in concert halls and festivals around the world. The tour came along with an album recorded live with the same name. But before the success of the tour and the album, which became an instant classic for group fans, the French duo had a big challenge ahead of themselves.

In 2005 Daft Punk had released their album ‘Human After All’ that had been a relative failure and many critics were questioning whether they had reached a peak in their career. Not long after they were presented with an opportunity that changed live performances since. They were offered to play in Coachella 2006, the world-famous music festival celebrated in Indio, California. The band accepted but requested a large sum of the money up-front to prepare the show. They were working on something special.

On Saturday, April 29, 2006, Daft Punk appeared on Sahara Tent stage after some delays. When the show started the public was able to see a gigantic structure in form of a pyramid that was lightened up with thousands of LED’s that combined lights and video. This was complimented with a medley that was a journey through their whole discography.

It was revolutionary at that time, now we might be used to those kind of performances, especially in the EDM genre, but at the time it was not common the use of LED’s and such big structures.

The concert was such a success that the stage could only hold 100,000 people and there where 400,000. Everybody present was texting all their friends to come and see the groundbreaking moment. Daft Punk had proved once more that they were not a passing fad, the robots were here to stay.
